National Aerospace Day

National Aerospace Day

A message from AIA President & CEO Marion C. Blakey:

National Aerospace Day recognizes the contributions of the aerospace industry to the history, economy, national security and technological innovation of the United States.

This special day is important for two compelling reasons: It’s an opportunity to underscore the value the aerospace and defense industry brings to the economic health, security and freedoms of Americans and others worldwide. And it’s a great day to say “job well done” to the hundreds of thousands of dedicated men and women of the U.S. aerospace and defense workforce.

Our employees are patriots who take great pride in their work, whether producing systems for warfighters, delivering world-class aviation systems or enabling our “last frontier” explorers to reach the outermost limits of space.

There are 844,000 workers directly employed in the aerospace and defense industry, supporting 2.2 million middle-class jobs in related fields. And there are more than 30,000 suppliers to the industry across all 50 states.

As America’s leading manufacturing export industry, we contribute a $57 billion U.S. trade surplus. Even though there are more tough economic challenges ahead, the industry stands tall as a cornerstone of the economy, a steward of innovation and crucial contributor to national defense.

The Aerospace Industries Association takes pride in the tribute that National Aerospace Day brings to our industry. We pledge to continue advancing — every day — the aerospace and defense capabilities that are vital to the nation.
