Learn the role that Technology Readiness Assessments play in DoD program management as well as the tools available for assessments. Technology Readiness Assessments evaluate requirements and demonstrated capabilities in order to determine a program's technological maturity. Gain a basic understanding of the role that TRAs play in DoD program management, and of the tools that are available for the assessments. The requirement for assessing Technology Readiness was based on a Government Accounting Office finding that many cost increases for defense systems were due to the incorporation of immature technologies early in the development cycle. The 2009 DoD Technology Readiness Level Deskbook provides a formal process for preparing and conducting a TRA at both the prime and subcontractor level.
